ALFALFA (/ælˈfælfə/), Medicago sativa, also called lucerne, is a perennial flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae. It is native to the Meditteranean area, but can be now cultivated and found all over the world.  This herb staple is an excellent source of most vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E, and K.  It also contains trace minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorous, and potassium. Alfalfa is also higher in protein than many other plant foods.
 
It has properties of a diuretic thus increases urinary flow. It also lowers cholesterol. Alfalfa leaves can be used to treat organs and tissues of the urniary system along with the prostate gland of the male reproductive system. It can be used to treat asthma, diabetes, ulcers, weight loss, digestive problems, osteroarthristis, rheumatoid arthritis, hay fever and thrombocytopenic purpura (low platlet count).
